Gemstones and crystals

These are widely used to augment colour on and around the body, and may be worn as talismans, amulets and jewellery placed over the parts of the body where energies are depleted. In treatment they are used with minerals and metals.

Gemstones and crystals ground or powdered into water have for many centuries been prescribed as oral medication in Ayurveda. However, it has long been understood that the healing properties of gems are transferred to water or other liquids in which the stone is immersed, and gem elixirs have been used in healing since ancient times. They are prepared by 'potentising' water containing gemstones by exposure to natural light, and can be taken by mouth. When applied externally they can be combined with creams and essential oils, and used in massage, and also added to baths.
